Advantech, the embedded platform and integration services provider announces its newest COM CPU module powered by the 
latest Intel Atom processor. The SOM-7562 COM-Ultra CPU module is only 84 x 55 mm in dimension and is powered by the new Intel Atom N450 processor with integrated onboard graphic and memory controller (GMCH) on a single chip enabling even better power reduction, smaller system designs and performance improvements.
COM-Ultra is a new COM form factor at only 84 x 55 mm board size, and the Advantech COM-Ultra series are the most compact COM modules available. They are compliant with the COM-Express type 1 standard pin definition, and with a slight modification are able to share with current COM-Express or COM-Micro carrier boards. They are the most suitable solution for personal handheld or portable applications.
The Thermal Design Power rating of the new Atom architecture is less than 5.5 Watts yet it offers better performance and lower power consumption than before. The new integrated “all-in-one” chip design is perfect for compact mobile device applications. SOM-7562 also works smarter to assure better application integrationwith the help of Advantech’s software SUSI API suite which features a watchdog timer, hardware monitor, and GPIO API’s and utilities to help customers integrate and configure specific features into their applications.
The combination of SOM-7562’s small board size of only 84 x 55 mm, and Intel’s 45nm Atom N450 processor with ICH8M chipset makes it especially suitable for small portable devices and applications which are battery powered. For example customers can integrate SOM-7562 into 10” or less LCD panels. The total power consumption of SOM-7562 is less than 5.5 Watts, meaning customers get the computing power they need, but also maximum battery life when they integrate SOM-7562 into their portable applications.
